Bodybuilding awareness campaign on violence against women to be held

The South African Classic Action Sport Unit (SACASU) will host Ekurhuleni Bodybuilding Interactive Championship (EBBIC).

The South African Classic Action Sport Unit (SACASU) will host Ekurhuleni Bodybuilding Interactive Championship (EBBIC).
The purpose of the annual programme is to educate young people, especially men, to refrain from abusing women and children.
According to Bheki Radebe, SACAS secretary, the event is fully funded by National Lotteries Commission.

“We want to educate society about social ills by using sport as a platform. This campaign will be conducted as a competition for novice bodybuilders from Ekurhuleni to showcase their talent.
“Educational material and different speakers will share positive messages discouraging gender-based violence. Prices ranging from money, trophies and medals would be issued to top 10 contestants,” explained Radebe.
SACASU focuses on grooming young people in karate, boxing and weightlifting – this includes establishing gyms, clubs and maintaining them as well as supporting those that are already in existence.
“We believe that sport can be utilised as an effective tool to spread positive dialogue that encourages for a gender-based violence free community.

“But in general, we believe that sport can stimulate change in behaviour among young men in our communities to influence for a healthy lifestyle and positive mindset. Our motto is positive living breeds a positive mindset.
“Our view is that young men who are involved in sport are disciplined and positive-minded.
“We take positive living as a lifestyle where people adopt training as a habit or way of life.
“Our main goal is to observe a culture where all families in our communities do sport, either karate, boxing or weight lighting.
The EBBIC will take place on April 17 at Springs Theatre.
“The event will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube with all Covid-19 regulations observed,” he added.
