Residents have made numerous complaints about illegal dumping in and around Springs following the closure of Rietfontein Landfill.
According to the Ekurhuleni metro, the contract for the service provider at the landfill ended on December 31.
“The tender, which was advertised, was a non-award due to bidders that did not meet tender specifications and requirements,” explained Solly Mashabela, the metro’s spokesperson.
He said the City is in the process of fast-tracking the procurement process for a month-to-month contract in the meantime, so that the landfill operates.
