Rain could not water down GBCW’s happy souls

The team made their way to the GBCW to make a lunch for the 16 children while waiting for Santa to make his surprise appearance.

The rain came down on December 5 but nothing could stop several store holders from Happy Souls Market from putting smiles on the faces of the children at the Greater Benoni Child Welfare (GBCW).

The initial plan for the day was to let the youngsters enjoy their day out at the market in Northmead, where the children could participate in the open mic event and receive gifts from Santa Claus.

But due to the weather, the market could not proceed and Trevor Terblanche from Happy Souls, who helped to organise the event, had to make alternative plans.

The team then made their way to the GBCW to make a lunch for the 16 children while waiting for Santa to make his surprise appearance.

The youngsters, filled with excitement, saw Santa coming in and could not wait to unwrap their gifts after giving a polite ‘thank you’ to Santa and Happy Souls for their gifts, lunch and time spent on the jumping castle.

“When I commit to doing something, I will do it,” Terblanche said.

“Today was all about letting the children have a fun day and I thank everyone who was involved in making it possible.

“Children are our future, they need to be loved and cared for.”

Vanessa Carelse, director of GBCW, said: “I am so grateful to all those who made this possible and did not cancel because of the rain.”

The GBCW is situated at One Third Street, Northmead, and can be contacted on 011 849 5241.
