Majola takes music to greater heights

Del Phuza has also been chosen by music channel Trace Urban with the show he produced, but the show couldn’t get off the ground as he failed to secure sponsors.

Tsakani – Born and bred in Brakpan, Mthokozisi Majola moved to Oakdene in Johannesburg to pursue his dreams. The 25-year-old, who goes by the stage name Del Phuza, said his dream was never to become a DJ; he actually wanted to pursue a career in media. “In 2018 after I obtained my diploma in journalism and media studies, I wanted to get into any media space but it was a bit of a blur for me. Things didn’t go as I imagined but I believe I was on the right track,” said Del Phuza. A few years later Del Phuza was fortunate to get an internship as a content producer and co-host on a show at a community radio station.

“I fell in love with radio and mixing and that developed into a passion. The station also taught me to be an all-rounder and a creative as I also wrote TV proposals, presenting them to TV channels and production companies.” His all-time favourite was mixing music and so he just wanted to get a break into the music industry. “I started mixing hip-hop, R&B and Afro beats. People started enjoying my sets. And then I realised this was my way of getting into the media space. “I started getting bookings and it was overwhelming. I never thought this would take me to where I am today and I am forever grateful for my family and friends for their support,” he said. Del Phuza has also been chosen by music channel Trace Urban with the show he produced, but the show couldn’t get off the ground as he failed to secure sponsors. “The name of the production was The OG Show, where I interviewed legends who have made a mark in the music industry. “I am doing exceptionally well and I know the content of my shows will secure a spot on television one day. At the moment, my focus is to produce music as much as I can,” he said.

His DJ career has been booming and he has been playing at some of Joburg’s most popular night clubs, including Cocoon in Sandton and Moscow Lounge in Maboneng. “On October 21, I released my debut single titled All Cap, featuring South $ide Vince. The song is sitting on 1 068 downloads on Slikour On Life, which is the most popular hip-hop website in South Africa. “With dreams of being one of the biggest entertainers in Africa, I will remain married to my hustle and will continue to grow in leaps and bounds,” said Del Phuza.
