Small businesses team up to help the community

Help Mwari Pizza House make a difference in the community

Kwa-Thema – Mwari Pizza House launched #MwariMondayMotivation Live Stream on Monday.

The launch was in partnership with eButler and the Do What You Love Agency, to support the Mwari Soup Kitchen Initiative.

“We want to make Mondays great again and chose Monday because before Covid-19, Monday mornings were buzzing with people going to work.

“Mondays are now just a sad memory and a slow day for businesses,” said Mwari Pizza House founder Tsepiso Sibisi.

As for the Mwari Soup Kitchen Initiative, Sibisi explained they were constantly receiving requests from community members who live below the poverty line to assist with food, leftovers or other supplies.

The business partnered with other youth-owned small businesses to serve soup, bread and other items, all of which are donated.

“eButler, an online grocery delivery platform founded by Vusi Mbokane, has played a huge role in making the soup drive a success through a donation of ingredients for our soup kitchen.

“They have committed themselves in supporting the community of Kwa-Thema through strategic partnerships with other small businesses,” Sibisi added.

Local artists graced the stage at the launch of #MwariMondayMotivation.

The soup kitchen operates every Monday at 48 Ramothibe Street.

“Every Monday morning we cook, set up and distribute free soup and bread to those in need.

“This is done from 8am until 10am.?This Monday we had The Red Card Campaign educating our beneficiaries about inequality and violence against women and children, which was headed by the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network,” she said.

The event was also attended by Thembi Ramatsha, spokesperson of New Image Rover, a home for troubled youth based in Kwa-Thema, the chairperson of Batlokoa Foundation, Hlalefang Belebesi and recording artist Njabulo Kunene.

Boots for Africa donated soccer boots and running shoes to underprivileged children.

The initiative needs the community’s support and resources to continue to help those in need.

“We need food and non-perishable goods, and we also want to empower our community with skills and connect them with opportunities through this initiative.

“People can get involved through volunteering and making donations of hand sanitiser, latex gloves, masks and demarcation tape.

“The event is a starting point for bringing together stakeholders to discuss social key issues,” said Sibisi.

On August 10 they aim to serve 200 cups of soup.
