Local cricket club shines at the 2020 cricket awards

Duduza Cricket Club is among the top 20 clubs in the country to be awarded the ‘Blue Flag’ status at the 2020 Cricket South Africa Amateur Awards.

The status is given to clubs who are driven by the objectives and aims of the presidential plan, which provides a minimum to operating an effective cricket pipeline structure.

The criteria used to ascertain the status of such clubs is based on administration capabilities, adequate facilities, minimum number of teams and qualified coaches.

Duduza Cricket Club head coach Tshepo Mofokeng says the recognition is warmly welcomed.

“It means a lot for the club firstly because the criterion is high and we have worked tirelessly be on the field, submitting reports and results and ensuring our facilities are top notch.

“Such status isn’t just given to anyone, and for us to be part of the only 20 club in the entire country is an honour,” says Mofokeng.

The announcement was made last Friday, ahead of the Cricket South Africa awards, which took place on Saturday, virtually.The club currently has three level two qualified coaches.

“I would like to say to all the coaches, management, players and supporters, thank you so much, particularly the coaches who ensure our facility is safe and clean at all times.

“Working as a team and understanding our different roles and respecting that has contributed a lot into making the club what it is today.

“I would like for us to continue working hard and being dedicated to our craft,” he adds.

CSA acting manager of Cricket Pathway Edward Khoza said in a statement: “Clubs which have achieved the blue flag status qualify for doubling their prize money at both the Multiply T20 Community Cup and the Momentum National Club Championships.

“The Duduza Cricket Club has worked hard; we congratulate them for this wonderful recognition of their merits, they ought to keep up the exceptional work.”
