Duduza Clinic to reopen on Wednesday

The announcement comes after the Duduza Clinic was closed indefinitely on April 1 after a resident nurse tested positive for Covid-19.

The mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, has announced that the Duduza Clinic will be reopened on Wednesday.

Following the closure of the clinic, the following interventions were implemented by the metro to mitigate the spread of Covid-19:

• Two mobile clinics were sent to the area to substitute the clinical services in the area.

• The Duduza Clinic was sanitised and deep cleaned during the period of closure.

• All 55 Duduza Clinic staff were tested for Covid-19 and to date, 45 test results have returned from the laboratory, all 45 test results returned negative.

• The metro is still waiting for the outstanding 10 test results. The staff that have not received their tests results yet will remain in self-isolation until the confirmation of their results are received.

• Mass testing for Covid-19 took place on April 3 at the Duduza Customer Care Centre, where the two mobile clinics are currently stationed.

Members of the community who visited the clinic recently or experienced symptoms of Covid-19 were tested.

“We would like to thank the community of Duduza for playing their part during the closure of the Duduza Clinic.

“Let us all continue to stay indoors and observe the 21-day national lockdown as declared by President Ramaphosa.

“We have passed the halfway mark of the lockdown and the decisions we make over the next 10 days will define the country’s victory over this devastating pandemic.

“We dare not fail ourselves,” says Masina.

The nurse who tested positive for Covid-19 is still in self-quarantine and is being monitored by medical personnel.

Masina and the metro wish her a speedy recovery.
