Yoh Youth Soccer Academy prepares its players for new season

The purpose of the workshop was to welcome back players which have graduated from u-13 to u-15 and u-17.

KwaThema – The Ace Auto Ayoba Yoh Youth Soccer Academy hosted workshops at Kenneth Masekela Secondary School to welcome back players on Saturday.

The purpose of the workshop was to welcome back players which have graduated from u-13 to u-15 and u-17.

U-17 coach Tshepo Nkabinde says the workshops are important to set the tone for the year.

“We welcome players from the new divisions and we are trying to set the tone for the year based on how we are intending to do things as a club.

“We need to be as professional as we can, and the only way to do that is through education and imparting information,” he explains.

He adds that they are worried about the high number of youth committing suicide and that as a club it is their responsibility to reach out to their players.

“We are trying to fill the gap by teaching them how to deal with personal issues, stress and anger.

“It is our responsibility as a club to educate them about emotional and mental health,” says Nkabinde.

The league is officially resuming on February 4.

New players from u-11 to u-19 are invited for trials; they should bring along their parents and a clearance letter if they are transferring from another club.

U-17 striker Khumo Madihlaba says: “Today’s session was very insightful as I have learnt a lot.

“Soccer is not just about passing the ball around, you have to be disciplined and maintain balance.

“I learnt how to set my long- and short-term goals and that I have to think before I act.”
