Springs officer arrested

The officer was allegedly arrested after receiving the money.

KwaThema – Members of SAPS Anti-Corruption Unit in Gauteng arrested a 38-year-old constable on charges of corruption, extortion and defeating the ends of justice on Thursday.

The arrest comes after police were alerted to an arrangement in which four suspects who were found in possession of a hijacked vehicle, were going to pay the constable an amount of R10 000 in exchange for the officer ensuring the case docent was misplaced and the case could not go to court for prosecution.

The officer was allegedly arrested after receiving the money.

Brig Mathapelo Peters of the Gauteng provincial police says the officer is currently in police custody.

“He is expected to appear before the Springs Magistrate Court on Monday,” she adds.
