Church donates school shoes to learners

“We are now calling on parents to attend school meeting and actively participate in their children’s education.”

KwaThema – Learners from poor backgrounds at Zimisele Secondary School received a school shoe donation from Christocentric Ministries on Monday.

The donation was in response to the death of a Grade 12 learner, Nokuthula Mahlangu, who died last September.

Pastor Siza Dhladhla says after their visit to the deceased learner’s family, they decided to start a campaign to help other learners in her name.

“We started inviting friends and local business people to come forward to make donations.

“Our goal is to fight poverty in our community and make the learning journey bearable.

“We don’t want to see any of the learners missing a day in class because of their poor backgrounds.

“ It is important that the churches actively participate in community programmes, and not only take from them without lending a helping hand,” he explains.

Dhladhla adds that he is calling on interested residents and companies to make donations.

“The school and teachers need the support of the community to continue to perform to their optimum best,” he adds.

School principal Thembinkosi Msimango says he is grateful that members of the community are heeding the call to work with the the school.

“It makes it easy for us as the teachers to do our jobs with the help and support of the community.

“We are now calling on parents to attend school meetings and actively participate in their children’s education.

“We also need the help of the community to fight criminals who are terrorising our learners on their way to school, stripping them of their valuables and disturbing learning,” he adds.
