Goodwill games bring community together

Under the theme building social cohesion through sports, the Ekurhuleni Goodwill Games finished without any glitches.

KwaThema – Under the theme building social cohesion through sports, the Ekurhuleni Goodwill Games finished without any glitches. The tournament commenced from December 16, ended on the 30, at the KwaThema Stadium.

Media liaison Seth Twala says: “We as the organising committee would like to thank the KwaThema community for the massive support they have displayed from the beginning to the end.

“This tournament wouldn’t have succeeded without them, and for that we are truly grateful.”

He adds that the tournament provided entertainment for the community during the festive season.

“Such tournaments are very important, especially for our youth as during such times they become exposed to unsafe and challenging situations.

“And sport is a great way of celebrating each other, and bonding as a community.”

U-13, Ace Auto Ayoba, beat Junior Spinners 8-0. Home Sweepers u-15 won by 2-1 against Valencia FC. The winners each received a soccer kit, trophy and 20 gold medals.

Junior Spinners and Valencia FC each received a soccer kit and 20 silver medals for obtaining second position.

In the masters group, Tsakane Masters defeated Kwasa Kwasa by 4-2, walking away with a cash prize of R7 000, trophy, soccer kit and 20 gold medals.

For the runners-up, Kwasa Kwasa took home a soccer kit, 20 silver medals and R3 000 cash prize.

In the seniors group, Amazokozoko FC lost in the penalty shoot-out by 5-6 after playing to a 3-3 draw against Leonissi FC.

Leonissi FC received a trophy, soccer kit, 20 gold medals and a cash prize of R70 000.

Amazokozoko walked away with R20 000, soccer kit, and 20 silver medals.

Teams that made it to the semi-final each received R5 000.
