KwaThema – The second phase of Matlala Park in Extension Six is underway.

Ward 80 councillor Wilson Busakwe says Matlala Park is going to be the first regional park in the East.

“What people need to understand are the benefits which this park will bring to their lives.

“We are creating a space where everything the community needs will be easily available to them.

“By just looking at phase one, I can already tell that it is going to be beautiful and the community is going to love it,” says Busakwe.

Sandile Malinga, landscape architech from GuaFlora, and a contractor working on the park, says, “The difference between a regional park and an eco-park is that a regional park has lots of social benefits, which will contribute to the lives of the community.

“For example, there will be enough space for community functions, skate park, a pitch and so much more.

“It will be looked after by the municipality, and, there will be a security fence around the entire park.”

Site foreman Trevor Mpungose says they have started paving pathways for the second phase, which will connect to the main road, and they will have a pedestrian bridge.
