For the event they had partnered with international organisation The Orchid Project –Top from Atlanta, in the United States of America, which donated 50 sanitary kits with T-shirts for learners at the school.

On October 11, they went to Lefa Ifa Secondary School, where they held talks with Grade Nine learners about menstruation. The learners also got sanitary packs from GLOW on the day, which were sponsored by Kit Kat Cash and Carry.

“The organisation seeks to invest in the lives of girls in Africa by meeting a basic need to promote healthy personal hygiene and cultivate positive self-esteem.

“For us, this was an opportunity to strengthen relations and work with other organisations which are doing great work within the community,” says Nyathi.

She adds that many schoolchildren are forced to stay at home during their menstruation.

“Since we know that a lot of girls miss school when they on their periods because they can’t afford to buy sanitary pads, we would like to thank the Savemoor Super Market in KwaThema for donating the pads for us to be able to give to the learners.”
