Local company helps guide learners on their career paths

“We are here to help young people to plan better for their future and not make the same mistakes as those from the past.”

Kwatsaduza – Young people are invited to use the facilities of the local company Tytone to help them plan their futures.

The organisation was founded in 2011 by Nomathemba Khanyile, Bheka Masinga and Rachel Motaung, who noticed that young people in the townships and rural areas face certain challenges when it comes to their education and career development needs.

The programmes are run in schools around Ekurhuleni, including Kwatsaduza, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Tembisa and Kathorus.

Motaung, the group’s marketing manager, says they specialise in developing intervention programmes and solutions that are aimed at providing young people with the knowledge and tools to help them make informed decisions about their education and careers.

“Our motto is ‘Levelling the Field in Education’ and hence everything we do is driven by the belief that each and every young person in the country deserves an equal and fair opportunity to pursue their ambitions, goals and dreams.”

Rachel says they have recently formed a programme called Future Forward Edu-Career Expo through which they will host career expos within the region.

“The participants will be township government school learners who will receive the opportunity to gain access to, interact with and receive information from exhibiting entities on study and career options available to them as the future workforce of the country.

“They will have the opportunity to interact and obtain relevant information from higher education institutions, companies, parastatals and government departments, where they can enquire about their respective bursary schemes and education initiatives, among other things.

“They will also be informed about the qualifying and entry requirements for the various courses, bursary schemes, other training and education programmes so as to be in a position to make informed and smart choices regarding their matric subjects,” she explains.

She emphasised that many high school learners from previously disadvantaged areas end up in fields of study they do not like, because of the lack of information and planning.
