Man sentenced to life to behind bars for brutal rape

“No man has the right to force himself on a woman, especially your family where it is your duty as a man to protect them,” says Ramphora.

The Springs Regional Court sentenced a 33-year-old man to life in prison for the rape of his relative in July last year.

Springs Police spokesperson Cpt Johannes Ramphora says the man raped his relative who was visiting them in KwaThema.

Ramphora says the relative opened up for the man after he came home late, where it was apparent he had been drinking.

The man held the 22-year-old cousin at knifepoint and raped her repeatedly.

Ramphora says the they are thrilled about the sentence handed down to the man.

“We hope this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others.

“We strongly condemn his actions and hope this sentence will send a strong message to the community regarding this man’s barbaric actions.

“No man has the right to force himself on a woman, especially your family where it is your duty as a man to protect them,” says Ramphora.

The man will serve his time at the Modderbee Correctional Facility.

He was also found unfit to carry a firearm.
