Construction of Joe Nzamane Road to resume soon

The plan for the R10-million construction is to connect with the roads in Extension Seven, which will lead to Vlakfontein Road.

KwaThema – Ward 80 Clr Wilson Busakwe says phase four of the Joe Nzamane Road will continue as soon as the budget is allocated.

The construction of the road came to a standstill in May after the contractor completed phase three he was appointed for.

The road will be a route for the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) once it is rolled out in the area.

Phase one of the raod construction started in 2017 from Kgaswane Street and the second phase, which stretched from Marule Street, was completed in June last year.

The plan for the R10-million construction is to connect with the roads in Extension Seven, which will lead to Vlakfontein Road.

Busakwe says at the moment they are waiting for the contractor to be appointed.

“The continuation of the project has been delayed by the latest budget for the 2019/20 budget to come out after we exhausted funds from the previous budget.”

Busakwe adds the construction of the road is to reduce the amount of traffic on Kgaswane Street, especially on weekends for funerals held at Vlakfontein Cemetery.

“We identified that the traffic is unbearable and had to come up with ways to diverge the traffic.

“We also hope it will reduce the amount of crime carried out in the open space where the road is constructed,” explains Busakwe.

The ward councillor says as soon as the contractor is appointed unemployed residents will be called to apply for job opportunities.

“We are calling on the residents to be patients and that the road should be completed by 2020.”
