“The competition was a success, all thanks to everyone who supported me throughout, and more especially to the Ekurhuleni metro and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation,” says Faku.

KwaThema – Vocalist and fashion designer Pam Faku held a matric dance competition at the KwaThema Hall on July 6.

“The competition was a success, all thanks to everyone who supported me throughout, and more especially to the Ekurhuleni metro and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation,” says Faku.

Qualified learners who had registered for the competition were judged by qualified fashion designer and actor Mandla Namo.

The event was hosted by poet Edgar Mashaba.

First-place winner Njabulo Maseko walked away with a fully paid bursary, an outfit for the matric dance, a shoe voucher and transport for his big night.

Runners-up Nokuthula Galela and Bontle Ledwaba won outfits and make-up for their matric farewell.

Councillor Thulani Simelane spoke to the learners about the importance of education.

“We have many privileges in life, but we must always remember that every talent is mastered through education and acquiring knowledge, hence we should never stop learning,” says Simelane.

Mr Gauteng prince Cebisa Gule encouraged the learners to always be presentable and to follow their passions and dreams.

“I am thankful for the support from the community because without them none of this would have been possible,” says Faku.
