Giving back to the elderly

The We Can Do This community project donated 31 pairs of socks to elderly people at the Tsakane Old Age Home on July 6.

Tsakane – The We Can Do This community project donated 31 pairs of socks to elderly people at the Tsakane Old Age Home on July 6.

The project was established in 2015 by Matshidiso Silinda from Tsakane Extension 12 to integrate young children in the community to become active citizens.

They have after-care classes where the children are taught life skills and also have sports activities as part of their programmes.

“We are working with children from the ages of two to 18.

“We wanted to teach and show our children the importance of taking care of our elderly and encourage the spirit of giving back,” says Matshidiso.

Tsakane Old Age Home manager Phoko Mokubung says: “We are extremely happy because we didn’t have enough socks and it’s very cold.

“We cannot stress the importance of having the community come to visit the elderly and spending time with them.”
