Taxi driver shot on Vlakfontein Road

KwaThema – A 36-year-old taxi driver from Tsakane was fatally wounded after being shot while exchanging passengers on the corner of Vlakfontein Road and Majola Street in KwaThema on Thursday.
According to a statement from KwaThema Police Station communications officer Const Media Khoza, the Ekurhuleni East Trio Task Team were patrolling when they saw a group of people gathering around a Toyota Quantum on Thursday at about 6pm.

“It is alleged the driver had passengers from Germiston Taxi Rank to Tsakane.
“He stopped at Vlakfontein Road as routine to exchange passengers when he was shot,” said Khoza in the statement.

The victim was declared dead by paramedics on scene.
The motive behind the shooting is unknown at this stage, pending further investigation.
