Skinny Sbu brings big names to Tsakane to help budding entrepreneurs

The ideas expo will be in four parts - Things I wish I knew at 20, an outdoor winter market, a master class on how to start a business and a career expo where various institutions will be showing attendees how to apply for the various options on offer.

Tsakane – Tsakane entrepreneur Sibusiso ‘Skinny Sbu’ Ngwenya, founder of Skinny Sbu Socks, is back and will host an Ideas Expo for the youth of Kwatsaduza in Tsakane at the end of June.

Ngwenya appeared on SABC News following his business going under after major department store Stuttafords shutdown in the middle of a deal he had signed with them, resulting in Ngwenya being left with a debt of R800 000.

“Twenty-seven-year-old me is dealing with 20 national stores from my own pocket, and I have to feed this monster,” he said during the programme.

The 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30 number seven says the experience was humbling.

“It showed me everything my grandfather taught me.

“It was like God forcing me to humble myself,” he says.

Twelve guests will be speaking to young entrepreneurs on avoid mistakes that would lead them down the same path he went.

The guests include SABC 1 head of channel Phumzile Zonke, Power FM Power Breakfast host Bob Mabena, Group CEO of M&N Brands and co-founder of South Africa’s largest black-owned advertising agency Zibusiso Mkhwanazi and entrepreneur and chartered accountant Andile Khumalo – to name a few.

The expo will be held Esihlahleni in Tsakane (next to Pholosong Hospital) on June 28 and 29.
