Local garage feeds KwaThema residents

“We will have another soup kitchen outside the Tsakane Old Age Home in two weeks time and hope to have it more regularly. Today was a great start, although we ran out of soup quickly and will definitely have more when we do this again,” says Davis.

KwaThema – Staff from the local garage on Springs Road came together on May 9 and gave out soup and bread outside the Kwa Thema Clinic.

Many who were coming from the clinic or around it received rolls and a hot bowl of soup.

Garage site manager Nonhlanhla Davis says the project was a huge success.

“It was the first time we were doing something of this nature, and it was fulfilling to see the smiles of the people when they received their meal.” says Davis.

According to her, the good thing about being set up outside the clinic was that they were able to give elderly people a meal so they are able to take their medication.

“We all know that when it is your clinic day, you have to arrive there bright and early which for some people mean that they either do not get a chance to eat before leaving the house, or by the time they take their medication, they are already hungry, so being there has made it possible for them to have a meal and then take their pills,” she explains.

She says the garage was having the soup kitchen because the community of Kwatsaduza supports the service station as it is one of the last stops in the area on their way to Johannesburg.

“The community of Kwatsaduza is close to our heart and we saw it fit top support them as they support us,”she says.

Nonhlanhla says they will be having another soup kitchen in Tsakane in two weeks time and hope to have it as a regular feature on their calendar.
