Ekurhuleni Shotokan Karate Dojo wins big in Cape Town
Cindi encourages parents to sign their children up for karate to keep them away from illegal substances and crime.
KwaThema – The Ekurhuleni Shotokan Karate Dojo members returned from the 13th United World Karate Federation Open African Karate and Martial Arts Championships in Kuilsriver with a total of nine medals and one quarter-final exit.
The dojo, which has been running since 2015, is run by shihan Michael Cindi who has been doing karate since 1969.

“This year saw us taking a team of 11, which is the largest we have taken yet.
“We are very happy with the results,” he says.
Cindi says it is important to practice karate as one learns discipline.
“There is a misconception that people who practice karate go around kicking people, but when people join us, they realise that that is far from the truth,” he explains.
Cindi also encourages people of all ages to practice karate as it keeps one healthy.
“There is no age to start or stop. It helps one stay fit and youthful through the exercises and a clean diet,” he continues.

Cindi encourages parents to sign their children up for karate to keep them away from illegal substances and crime.
“We encourage parents to bring their children to join us and will not start training any children without the consent of their parents,” he concludes.

U-9 Koshiki:
Abokwe Mhlanga – bronze medal.
Mhlonishwa Madonsela – gold medal.
Under 11 – Koshiki:
Thami Banzi – Bronze.
U-14 Koshiki:
Siphosethu Ndlovu – bronze medal.
Veterans: George Mashiane – gold medal.
Raymond Mahlangu – silver medal.
Seniors:
Mpendulo Nyembe – bronze medal.
Masters:
George Moche – silver medal.
