Kwathema schools generally showing an increase in matric exams

KwaThema – Acting deputy principal of Tlakula Secondary School Steve Masombuka has expressed great joy at the matric results of the school’s class of 2018 that achieved an overall pass rate of 77.6 per cent.

“Our learners did very well, showing an improvement of 20 per cent from the 57.6 per cent achieved by the class of 2017,” he said.

Tsakane Secondary School achieve highest pass rate

The secondary school also achieved a total of 18 distinctions, seven of which were achieved by Mpho Ntlwana, who is going to be pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Cape Town.

“I started asking for textbooks in December of 2017 when I found out I was going to be in Grade 12 and have been working hard since the beginning of the year. My results are thanks to my time management.” she said proudly.

Of the 111 students who passed, 41 obtained bachelor passes.

Lefa-Ifa Secondary School saw an increase of 6.88 per cent in their results from 77.8 per cent in 2017 to 84.68 per cent in 2018.

The learners achieved a total of 19 distinctions, with 47 of the 94 students obtaining bachelor passes.

Ten of the distinctions were achieved by Tshwarelo Kgwale who intends to study nuclear science and engineering at Wits. Lindokuhle Sithole will pursue a degree in actuarial sciences at Wits while Sbongo Mvelase will register for a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Johannesburg.

Sithole obtained four distinctions while Kgwale and Mvelase each obtained three distinctions.

Labane Motlabi Secondary School achieved a pass rate of 85.08 per cent in 2018. In 2017 their pass rate was 78.86 per cent.

They also obtained a total of 16 distinctions, three of which belong to Bonginkosi Vilakazi who will be studying mining engineering at Wits.

Vilakazi is one of the 36 students who obtained bachelor passes and one of 96 who passed from the 114 who wrote.

2017’s top school Zimisele Secondary School obtained a pass rate of 75.78 per cent, a decrease of 15.72 per cent from the 91.5 per cent achieved by the class of 2017.

They achieved three distinctions overall and 30 bachelor passes from the 128 candidates who sat for the exams.

Nkumbulo Secondary School’s principal, Henry Nakumba, expressed his pride as his students achieved a pass rate of 87.2 per cent, an increase of 15.18 per cent from the class of 2017’s 72.02 per cent.

Of the 141 students who sat for the exams, 123 passed, with Esethu Ngiyana achieving five distinctions and Sibabalwe Nofingxana three.
