Security guards will not work at government clinic

The security personnel at Nokuthela Ngwenya Community Health Centre have put down their tools on Wednesday morning.

Dunnottar – The security personnel at Nokuthela Ngwenya Community Health Centre have put down their tools on Wednesday morning.

“We will sit here under these trees and do nothing until we know when we are going to get paid,” says one of the disgruntled security guards.

They claim they have not been paid for September and they have received no warning from their employer.

“This is not the first time we don’t get paid on time, so now we have decided to take action.

“We hope to send a clear message to our superiors.”

“I don’t want to make empty promises and anger you even more.

“That is why I cannot commit to a date,” she explains.

Mathupi claims the metro has not, for the past two months, paid her company, Silver Stars Trading.

“The main problem is that we no longer trust you (Mathupi).

“You always come up with excuses instead of telling us the truth.

“How are we supposed to get to work when we don’t have money?

“What are we going to eat as we sit here all day?” exclaims another angry employee.

Deon van Vuuren, a pharmacist at the health centre, committed to facilitating the conversation with the metro about the alleged unpaid invoices.

“It is clear there has not been much communication between the company and the employees.

“This needs to be resolved quickly.”

The employees decided they will continue with the go-slow until Mathupi can commit to a date of when they will receive the outstanding salaries.

“Why should we continue to work when we are not appreciated?”
