Three armed men attempted to rob a G4 truck which was going to deliver money at a Shoprite along Shabangu Street in KwaThema on Saturday.

It is alleged the truck had stopped outside the supermarket when the armed men attacked them.

Springs police East Cluster communications officer Captain Johannes Ramphora says the G4 security official, Michael Ndakane, got out of the vehicle and loaded two containers containing change on the trolly.

“When he approached the door of the Shoprite, he was shot once in the back and fell to the ground.

“The suspect started shooting at the truck from the driver’s side while the other suspect took the trolley with the money containers.

“The driver of the G4 truck drove straight into him with the intention of knocking him down, and the suspects left the trolley and ran away,” he explains.

It is alleged the third suspect was shooting from the left side of the truck and the window, rear wheels and front wheel, as well as the petrol tank, were damaged.

“All three suspects got into a white Mazda 6 and managed to drive away.

“No money was taken except the firearm of security official Ndakane,” further explained Ramphora.
