KwaThema residents receive donations from TCM Development

“We believe in the saying that it takes a village to raise a child.”

KwaThema – TCM Development donated school shoes to 10 learners from different primary schools and blankets to senior citizens from Mkhanqwa Informal Settlement last Thursday.

This was part of their social outreach programme to help the residents in the areas where they offer their mobile toilet services.

Ward 74 Clr Thulane Simelane says they approached the company after identifying some of the learners who were forced to go to school with worn-out uniforms.

“It broke my heart that there were still learners forced to brave the cold winter without proper uniforms because their parents or legal guardians could not afford to buy them uniforms.

“We believe in the saying that it takes a village to raise a child.

“Each learner received a pair of shoes and a school shirt. This was to contribute towards making their journey to school favourable.

“While each of the elders received two blankets, we understand that they are staying in shacks and the weather can be harsh.

“We decided to also help keep them warm this winter,” he says.

Simelane says they appreciate the continued support they receive from local business people.

“We would not be able to cater for all the residents who are in need if it wasn’t for their support,” he says.

Disebo Tshabalala from TCM Development says they provide chemical toilets in the area and could not refuse to help when they received the request.

“We identified that the majority of the residents in the area are poor and this is affecting the children.

“We immediately agreed to lend a helping hand. We are happy that we were able to help,” she says.
