Pastors donate school shoes to encourage children to stay in school

The Interdenominational African Ministers Association in Southern Africa (IDAMASA) donated school shoes on Tuesday morning.

KwaThema – If their efforts to encourage children to stay in school, the organisation donated school shoes and socks to 60 learners at Muzomsha and Theo Twala primary schools.

“While we were doing school ministry, over the years we identified that this has been the need for many children. “So it was easy for us to contribute in this way,” explains Reverend Oupatjie Mdhlane.

He says their desire is to see the children become responsible citizens who will come back and sow into the lives of others years from now.

The organisation received funds from Sun Carnival City Community Trust to roll out the project.

Dr Bishop Timothy Shabangu, a member of IDAMASA and representative of the trust, says the schools chose the beneficiaries as they saw fit.

Themba Mthembu, principal of Theo Twala Primary School, says he is very grateful to the organisation.

“We can learn from the constitution (of the country) to prioritise the interests of children over everything.

I hope and believe that this will make a positive impact in their lives because some of them come from the most impoverished homes.”

He says many of them come from the surrounding informal settlements with many child-headed families.

Mdhlane further appealed to the learners to take care of their new shoes.

“We want these shoes to last, please polish them and don’t play soccer in them.

“Just do your best to keep them in a good condition.”
