Police seize two R5 rifles in KwaThema

“The officers were able to access the house when doors were found unlocked.”

KwaThema – An R5 rifle with 27 rounds loaded in the magazine and 40 R1 rounds were recovered on Friday.

This after the police acted on a tip-off they received from a reliable source.

EMPD spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, says the source said a person living in a house on Didisha Street in Highland was in possession of an R5 rifle.

“When the officers arrived at the address they found the house locked, but managed to gain entry.

“The police recovered the loaded R5 rifle and 40 live rounds of an R1 rifle at the house.

“Apparently, the occupants vacated the house as soon as the officers’ vehicles stopped at the address.

“The doors inside the house were found unlocked.

“An R5 rifle with 27 live rounds and 40 R1 rifle rounds were discovered in one of the rooms.

“The R5 rifle’s serial numbers were filed off,” he says.

Kgasago says the SAPS forensic investigators arrived at the scene to lift fingerprints and the rifles were booked in at KwaThema Police Station.

“We appreciate the continuous assistance of the community, this will help us fight crime,” he says.
