Four plus one driver hijacked in KwaThema

Police are investigating a case of hijacking after 40-year-old Obed Mteto was hijacked last Wednesday afternoon.

KwaThema – It is alleged the victim was stopped in his black Toyota Tazz mini taxi along the road of KwaThema Hostel.

KwaThema police spokesperson, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says it is alleged the victim was stopped by two men who told him they were travelling to Extension Four on Mndebele Street.

“He drove towards the place where he was directed to but when he was about to make a turn into Mndebele Street, the man sitting in the front seat pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him.

“He instructed him to continue driving. He was instructed to make a turn on Rietfointein Road and drive to the N17.

“While driving he decided to stop next to the bridge and got out of the car. The man in the front seat drove away with the car towards N17.

“He walked towards Devon section and saw a metro police bakkie approaching and asked for help.

“They tried to follow the Tazz but it was nowhere to be found. He then proceeded to the offices of the tracker company.

“The vehicle was recovered with the help of the tracker company in Kriel,” he says.

Sibuyi says there were no gunshots fired, no injuries sustained and no one has been arrested.
