Karate as a form of self defence

Sensei Jackson Mabuza's Short and Sweet Shotokan Karate Club is equipping women with self-defence tips.

Tsakane – Sensei Jackson Mabuza, from the Short & Sweet Shotokan Karate Institute SA, was invited to be the guest speaker at the ladies event, Dancing In Heels, last Saturday.

“I was demonstrating a few self-defence techniques with my student Bathabile Kokong.

“It is important to give women tips on how to defend themselves at home or if they are ever attacked by thugs.”

Mabuza says that it was a fruitful event.

“I am sure all the women who attended learned a lot, not from me only, but from all the other speakers as well.

They were willing to learn and they respected all the speakers and I will also like to show my gratitude to Madam G, the organiser of the event.”

He says he still believes that karate is still one of the best disciplines to help build strength and confidence.

The sensei also encourages parents to encourage their children to participate in sport and provide them with the best support.

“The younger, the better,” he adds.

Anyone who is interested in joining the Short & Sweet Shotokan Karate Institute can find them at Buhlebemfundo Secondary School at 5pm Mondays and Tuesdays.

“We will also be at Springs Arena on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm.”
