Jabu gets personal best at Two Oceans

Jabu Mashinini completed the 56km Two Oceans Marathon in four hours and four minutes, winning a Sainsbury medal.

KwaThema – Although the time was his personal best, he was actually aiming for three hours 55 minutes.

“I spent too much time at Constantia Neck and I ended up having to do a lot of catching up after that.”

The former soccer player participated in his first race, the Johnson Crane Marathon, in Benoni, in 2013, and has made major strides since then.

“I am really satisfied with my growth as a long distance runner. It can only get better from here.”

He took part in the 2017 Comrades Marathon and finished in seven hours and 42 minutes.

“Every other race has been preparation for the Two Oceans and this year’s Comrades.

“Judging by my results, my desire is to finish the Comrades within seven hours and nine minutes this year.”

In November Mashinini competed in the 42km Soweto Marathon, finishing in three hours and two minutes, and Om die Dam 50km in three hours and 36 minutes.

“The last long run than I will participate in is the Los Kop 50km.

“Then I will allow my body to rest until June.”
