Campaign to empower boys to become responsible citizens

Tsakane police in the Social Crime Prevention and Communication Department, together with the Apostolic Faith Mission-Century of Hope Assembly Church, took a stand during the annual Save a Male Child Campaign.

Tsakane – The event was held on Wednesday and was aimed at empowering and motivating young men to become responsible citizens.

The campaign was held in two phases. One was in the form of a march where the young boys marched and chanted messages of no drugs through the streets of Tsakane, leading to the Tsakane Community Hall, where the second phase of the campaign was held in a form of a dialogue.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu says the objective of the campaign is to teach young boys how to become responsible citizens.

“We also intended to show them love and appreciation.

“Society often expects a man to be strong and not show emotion, which should not be the case.

“As a result, many resort to taking drugs and getting involved in criminal activities to channel their emotions,” she says.

Tsakane’s Sergeant Lebohang Ramaesa emphasised the importance of education for boys.

“Education is the key to success and you should not allow anyone to convince you otherwise.

“Drugs and crime will only destroy your future and lead to complications with your health.

“We are urging parents to not turn a blind eye whenever they see their children’s behaviour changing for the worse.

“Children need to be reprimanded and guided to become responsible citizens,” he says.

Ramaesa says they have joined hands with different stakeholders to help fight high substance abuse in the area.

“We are pleading to the community to join us in helping those who are ready to clean their act and go through rehabilitation.

“We need the support of parents and community leaders to come through to join the fight,” he says.
