Learn control with yoga ekasi

Nkosana Maseko believes he is introducing a whole new lifestyle by bringing yoga to eKasi.

Tsakane – The twenty-four-year-old admits that he stumbled upon yoga while he was looking for something else.

“Growing up I always wanted to be taller.

“I was very body conscious and I started searching for ways to add a few inches to my frame,” he explains.

With the help of the internet, Nkosana started learning new ways he believed would elongate his spinal cord and improve his posture.

“I started reading about how to be healthier and bringing the best out of my body.

“I studied everything, even how to walk.”

He says yoga poses were suggested to help in his pursuit.

“Once I started, I fell in love.

“And it did not even matter why I started in the first place.”

He believes that everyone goes through a phase of feeling empty and need to find a purpose for their lives.

“And that is usually the point where you discover your purpose,” he adds.

Yoga is Sanskrit word for ‘unite’.

“I discovered that I love to serve.

“If I can help people live a better quality of life with the knowledge I have, why wouldn’t I help?”

The self-taught yoga instructor says the discipline is for everyone.

“People have a misconception that yoga is about the physical poses.

“But it is about control and being at peace.”

He says a lot of people find it challenging when they first try it.

“I want to challenge people to find themselves in the moves because that is where they discover how spiritual it is.

“I look at people wherever I go and their posture tells me that they are burdened,” he explains.

Nkosana also believes that school children and teachers would also benefit from meditation.

“The main point is for us to get complete control of our spirit, soul and body.

“Life can be stressful but we have the full capacity to be successful, even in those stressful situations.”

Nkosana instructs a yoga class at Wolf and Co Café in Tsakane every Saturday at 7.45am.
