Duduza police arrest suspect in possession of stolen school food

Food destined for schools is being sold in Duduza.

Duduza- Five have been arrested for possession of suspected stolen groceries in Bluegumview, Duduza, since Friday.

This was after the sector police members followed up on information about a syndicate stealing groceries intended for school nutritional programmes.

Duduza police spokesman Sergeant Harry Manaka says the police received information about a truck that was delivering food intended for James Nkosi Primary School at a house in the area.

“On arrival, the delivery truck had already offloaded the food at the house.

“The police searched the house and found groceries worth thousands of rands in the house belonging to a female.

“The woman was immediately arrested and detained at the Duduza police station,” he says.

Manaka says police discovered that the truck driver and his colleagues are stealing the food meant for schoolchildren and selling it to residents.

“The police are investigating further and hope to arrest more people connected to the matter.

“The groceries, including mielie meal, milk and fish, were removed from the house into the police custody but and later handed back to the school principal.

“The other four were arrested on Sunday after further police investigations,” he says.

Manaka says the police appreciate the efforts of the community for alerting the police on the matter and not turning a blind eye to crime.
