Hairdressers unite to develop industry ekasi

Professional hairdressers will come together to give aspiring hairdressers the benefit of their own experiences in the industry.

KwaThema – Thandi Nkosi says she called the experts to take part in the projects because she recognises the special talents of many young people in Kwatsaduza.

“A lot of them really know how to do hair, but they lack certification.

“We want to help them learn what they need in order to turn their talents into good businesses.”

She says many of the young hairdressers struggle to secure funding from government entities.

“We also know that the Skills Education Training Authorities (SETA) wants to make hair salons service providers, but many do not qualify for the grants.

“It all comes down to compliance.”

Thandi says with the combined experience of the professional hairdressers, most of who are salon owners will help mentor those who would take full advantage of it.

“We are inviting everyone who considers themselves a hairdresser.

“You don’t have to have your own salon or any qualification.”

She says they will assess each candidate to establish what kind of assistance they can provide.

“It will take time, but we are all committed.

“This will make our whole industry better.”

Thandi and her team invite all potential participants to the All Souls Anglican Church, Machobane Street, Tsakane, on March 18 at 9am.

“Those who do have qualifications will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills, not just for hair but in the business itself.”
