Woman says Pholosong Hospital ‘must cure post-birth odour’

Patricia Goloza says her daughter's life was ruined when the placenta was not removed after she gave birth at Pholosong Hospital three years ago.

Tsakane – Patricia Goloza believes her daughter’s life has been ruined after she gave birth at Pholosong Hospital three years ago.

Wandile Golozo, who was 16 at the time, went to Pholosong Hospital in March 2015 and left with a healthy baby after she gave birth naturally.

“A few days after we got home, she started feeling sick.

“She was pale,” says Mam Patricia.

Wandile then collapsed two weeks after giving birth.

“We rushed her to the same hospital, where she was attended to quickly,” explains Mam Patricia.

“The doctor on duty in casualty said there was something wrong with the placenta, almost immediately.”

The young mother was then rushed into theatre, where the placenta was removed.

“When I walked into the ward, the placenta was next to her in a container,” explains Mam Patricia.

Wandile was discharged a few days after the procedure.

Mam Patricia says she noticed a foul odour coming from Wandile as soon as they got back home.

“I thought it would be flushed out by the treatment she was taking.”

But Wandile completed the treatment and the foul odour still lingered.

“We went back to the hospital and I told them that something was still wrong with my daughter, but they kept postponing her check-up.”

Mam Patricia says she laid a complaint with the quality assurance department at the hospital.

“We have been called to meet with them, but we either wait too long and then leave, or they just ignore us.”

She says all she wants is for her child’s health and dignity to be restored so that she can move on with her life.

Pholosong Hospital failed to respond to the media inquiry by the time of publication.
