New school shoes and socks for 20 learners

Twenty learners from Edalinceba Primary School received new school shoes from a couple of guys who just decided to do something good for their community.

Duduza – Twenty learners from Edalinceba Primary School received new school shoes from a couple of guys who just decided to do something good.

Bheki Makhombothi says that a casual chat with his work friends, late last year, turned into a project when he realised that they carried the same burden.

“I was just telling the guys that meeting some of these learners on their way to school is heartbreaking.

“The condition of their shoes – we knew we had to do something.”

This is when Bheki, France Masinga, Wiseman Malinga, Meshack Magudulela and Mboneseni Ngwenya, who work for the same company, started inviting other employees to join the initiative.

“There are about fifteen guys who have contributed to this project.

“But we are really looking forward to doing so much more.”

Most of the donors grew up in Duduza and saw this as an opportunity to give back to their community.

Bheki says they only came to the school after they decided what it is that they would donate.

“We informed them of our intentions, and they allowed us to do it.”

The twenty pairs of school shoes and socks were given to unsuspecting learners, who were selected by the school.

And the group has intentions of doing much more.

“We are hoping to have enough funds to buy jerseys before winter.

“It would be good.”

Maria Ncokwane, acting deputy principal of the school, expressed her deepest gratitude.

“On behalf of the entire school, I want to thank you.

“These learners really need the shoes.

“God bless you.”
