KwaThema Fashion Week to hit the ramp running

KwaThema Fashion Week will host a festival that gives one of the participating designers an opportunity to sell their clothes online.

KwaThema – Steven Monoki, the founder of KwaThema Fashion Week, is on the hustle once more.

After putting together five successful fashion shows last year, Moniki is more than ready to continue on his mission of reviving fashion in KwaThema.

“Being a big fan of London Fashion Week, I saw an opportunity to reintroduce fashion in our small town.

“I started, last year, with zero budget and no sponsors, but today KwaThema Fashion Week has more than 10 sponsors.”

He says he has not allowed his disadvantaged background to stop him from chasing his dreams.

“Dream, chase, fulfil, leave a legacy”, he said.

Monoki draws inspiration from the likes of David Tlale and Stephen Qoba.

“The fashion festival will be focusing on designers from all over Ekurhuleni.

“Fashion lovers are going to witness a fashion runway.”

He has also been in the music industry for eight years and has faced many challenges, such as not getting enough exposure and not being taken seriously by the community.

He has just shot a video for one of his singles, Cheese and Polony.

“The key is persistence; you can’t expect things to come easily.

“Once you know what you want, you focus on it until you see results.”
