Foundation commits to helping young women blossom

The Qhakaza Mbali project is committed to supplying young girls with sanitary pads and giving them a platform to solve social ills.

KwaThema – Thabang Xaba Foundation officially founded their 2018 young women campaign ‘Qhakaza Mbali’.

The name means ‘glowing or blooming flowers’, referring to the young women they cater to.

“Qhakaza Mbali is a holistic approach that will be used to facilitate advocacy programs for teenage girls and young women,” explains Thabang Xaba.

Lwazi Khoza one of the facilitators of the project says she believes it is a much-needed platform for girls in the community.

“I encourage all young girls to align themselves with such platforms as to better themselves,” she said.

The foundation visited Kenneth Masikela Secondary and Phulong Secondary School to donate sanitary pads on Monday.

Xaba, the foundation’s managing director, believes that girls around Kwatsaduza have lost hope in the system.

“That is evident in our conversations with them during our visits at schools and churches.

“But we want them to understand that complaining hopelessly as young women is not enough,” adds Khoza.

“We need to rise and face life with all injustices head-on, inspiring one another for greatness.”

The Foundation thanks the Department of Education and supporting teams at these high schools.

“For opening their doors to change, but most importantly for going the extra mile in transforming the lives of every young woman who is taking charge of her life.

“We are excited about the campaign and we hope women will rise to it and make themselves agents of change, shining in restoring hope to others,” says Xaba.
