Four men arrested for being in possession of explosives in KwaThema

A tip-off from the community lead to the successful arrests.

KwaThema – A tip-off from a concerned member of the community has led to the arrest of four suspects who were found in possession of commercial explosives.

The community member overheard a conversation between two individuals who were discussing explosives.

The information was passed on to the EMPD’s Public Order Policing Unit members, who immediately went out in search of the suspects.

Around 1pm on Saturday, January 13, the metro police arrested the three suspects, who were found in possession of commercial explosives.

The suspects provided the metro police with the name and address of the person who sold the explosives to them.

The seller was found at an address in Brakpan, where more commercial explosives were found.

The trio was arrested and detained at KwaThema Police Station for illegal possession of commercial explosives.

The fourth suspect was also arrested on the same charge and was detained at Brakpan Police Station.

All four suspects were expected to appear in court on January 16.

In-depth investigations are continuing to find the source of the explosives and to determine the suspects’ intended purpose for acquiring them.
