SEE PHOTOS: More than 80 RDP houses to be built in KwaThema

Councillor Wilson Busakwe promises that more than 80 families will have moved into their new houses by Easter.

KwaThema – Relief is on the way as councillor confirms that the metro will build 80 houses by April.

Councillor of Ward 80, Wilson Busakwe says the roll out of the houses will happen speedily.

“The operation started a while ago, and although there have been some delays with the construction I am happy that these houses will be ready for occupation soon.”

The houses have an open plan kitchen and lounge.

All the houses will be in Barcelona (621 Scheme).

The sample house, finished at the end of December, boasts two bedrooms, full bathroom and open plan kitchen and lounge.

“There is a great possibility that there will be an extra 60 houses in addition to the 80,” he adds.

Most of the stands already have occupants who live in temporary structures.

Owner of the newly built house, Tebogo Mohatsi says he is thoroughly impressed.

“The house is better than the most RDP houses that we have seen.

“It is really is much more than I expected.”

All the houses will also be fitted with solar geysers and ceilings.

The houses have a fully fitted bathroom.

“These houses are just as good as bond houses.

“The government is really stepping up,” says Clr Busakwe.

Speaking at the launch of a R35 billion John Dube City Mega project which is going to yield over 10 000 houses, in October last year, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Cooperative Government, and Traditional Affairs, Paul Mashatile says the Gauteng government was working hard to reduce the backlog of housing.
