Seven distinctions for Tsakane learner, but no bursary… yet

Tsakane – Lebogang Mogajane ended her secondary school career with a bang after getting distinctions in all her subjects.

“I did not even expect it because I had such a tough time while I was writing some of my papers,” says the former Tholulwazi Secondary School learner.

Lebo obtained distinctions in mathematics, physical science, life sciences, geography, Sepedi, English and life orientation.

She says the key to excellent academic results is consistency and self-discipline.

“I had a goal, but some days I really did not feel like doing the work.

“I am just grateful to the people around me who did not let me slack.”

The 18-year-old attended after-school programmes and weekend classes throughout the year.

“I made my teachers my friends and I asked questions all the time.

“It is amazing how our teachers, even though they do not get paid for working overtime, spend hours helping us grasp the work,” she adds.

Lebo believes her 84 per cent average is a result of work she started years before she was in grade 12.

“It would be very hard to get distinctions now without creating a good foundation from Grade 10, and even before that.”

Although she has already been accepted to study towards a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science degree at the University of Pretoria, Lebo has not yet secured a bursary.

“I have applied to a number of companies, but I do not have funds yet.

“I really hope to get something soon, because registration fees are due,” she explains.

Lebo encourages learners to use the resources they have to gather as much information about their current and future studies as possible.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped me through this journey, especially my family.
