Coaches complete Safa training course

Safa’s Vision 2022 is aimed at rebuilding structures, at all levels, to create the conditions that will bring about the sustained international success of national teams.

KwaThema – Bonginkosi ‘Billy’ Simelane and Zebulon ‘Sloter’ Mutle have completed the second module of the South African Football Association (Safa) Coach Development Programme.

Billy, the goalkeeper coach of African All Stars, believes the training has been beneficial to his coaching style.

“Most people watch soccer and believe it is easy.

“But there is a whole technical side that people don’t understand.”

Safa’s Vision 2022 is aimed at rebuilding structures, at all levels, to create the conditions that will bring about the sustained international success of national teams.

They believe this should start at developmental level.

“The courses are important because even the rules are amended.

“We are learning a lot from the courses,” adds Sloter, team manager of Eleven Experience.

The developmental programmes are rolled out according to different levels.

“We completed the D licence earlier this year.

“And this is the C- licence.”

The two coaches are scheduled to do the remaining three levels next year.

“We appreciate the support and the people who help us to afford the courses, especially our teams,” says Billy.

The coaches hope that developmental-level soccer will be taken seriously in the community.

“We really want to encourage other coaches to do the same and improve on what they already know.

“It is not a waste of our time.”

Safa’s long-term development goal is to always be in the top 3 of the African rankings and in the top 20 of the world rankings.
