Duduza – Eight hundred title deeds were distributed by the Ekurhuleni member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements Clr Lesiba Mpya to the community of Duduza.
The recipients of title deeds include residents in the Bluegumview and Masechaba areas.
Resident Maria Nkosi from Bluegum says she is happy that they are finally receiving the title deeds.
“We have been waiting and lost hope that we will one day receive the title deeds.
“But finally today we will have them.
“I will rest even when I die, knowing that my children will have a piece of paper showing that the stands belonged to their mother.
“In this way they will be protected and won’t be kicked out onto the streets,” she says.
Mpya says the title deeds were distributed to ensure security of tenure for the rightful beneficiaries of houses in Duduza.
“As the city we are rolling out these title deeds in an effort to cover the 11 000 title deeds backlog that exists in the metro as well as to bring dignity and relief to home-owners.
“We also caution residents on the illegal sale of houses.
“Those found doing so will face the full might of the law.
“Over the next five years, the city has pledged to provide 59 000 serviced stands.
“These will consist of ablution facilities, roads, electricity, a stormwater drainage system and water,” he says.
During the handover, Mpya visited 99-year-old Gogo Rosina Motaung at her house in Masechaba section to personally hand over the title deed.
“In my whole life, I had given up on getting this piece of paper.
“Now that I have it, I am grateful to the government,” says Motaung.
