Soccer helps youngsters prosper

Prosper Stars hosted a successful round of friendly games last Saturday.

Tsakane – Matshidiso Silinde’s Prosper Stars hosted friendly matches to encourage positive competition among the children.

She started ‘We can do it! Community Project’ out of her own home to get her neighbours’ children off the streets and now they even have a soccer pitch.

“We used the open field behind the houses to play netball and soccer and we often invite other teams to come play with us here.”

The goal posts were donated by another organisation.

She has introduced sport to help their young minds and bodies stay active.

“From Monday to Thursday, I help the kids with their homework and on Saturdays we do Life Skills and Sports. “We are very busy.

“I know that it would be unreasonable to expect them to study all the time.”

Silinde went on to explain that although she has so many children to look after, she hopes more children will come and join them.

“Anyone who can assist us, please do so. We usually have sandwiches on Saturdays because we have someone who donates bread but I wish we could have more for the kids.”

Last Saturday they hosted three teams and these are the scores:

• Tjovitjo 0-0 African Stars

• Vumbuka 3-2 Tjovitjo

• Prosper Stars 7-0 African Stars

• Tjovitjo 5-2 Prosper Stars

• Vumbuka 3-4 African Stars

• Prosper Stars1-1 African Stars
