School receives early Christmas gift: an entire kitchen

The corporate social investment project is estimated at R350 000.

KwaThema – A frozen food manufacturer donated a new kitchen to KwaThema Primary School, unveiled last Thursday.

Marcus More, the school’s principal says more than 90 per cent of the learners depend on the feeding scheme.

Principal Marcus More is excited that the school has a new kitchen.

“This was the first school in KwaThema. It was in Tornado, but we were moved here because the building was unstable.”

He says that when the company came the first time, they wanted to donate uniforms.

“We took them to the staff room which was used to cook and store food.

“I did not have to convince them anymore.”

More says the school is grateful for the donation.

“It is an honour for us to be associated with you.

“This moment will never be forgotten in the history of this school,” he adds.

Rishen Chetty, the process engineer at the company’s local plant says the corporate social investment project is estimated at R350 000.

“We wanted to do something for the school and when we realised that they were cooking in the staff room, we knew we had to build this kitchen.”

Newly built kitchen will help feed most of the learners at KwaThema Primary School every day.

Barto Greeff, plant manager of the Springs frozen foods manufacturer says he is humbled by the experience.

“We are so privileged to be able to do this for the learners.”

He adds the new fridge will be fully stocked with their products every week.

“The teachers can have their staff room back now,” he jokes.

Zanele Ngoma, nutrition co-ordinator at the school, says “most of the parents of our learners are unemployed.

“The children get breakfast and lunch here every day.”

She believes that it helps the learners focus during the day.

“The learners are so happy!”
