Nyembe murder suspects denied bail

"Trio arrested in connection with the death of the deputy principal of Edalinceba Primary School were denied bail by the Nigel Magistrate's Courts."

Duduza – Three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of the deputy principal of Edalinceba Primary School, Mswazi Nyembe, were denied bail at the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The trio aged between 45 and 23 were arrested four weeks ago after police followed leads from the community in Tsakane and KwaThema.

They are facing charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm which is suspected to have been used during the commission of the crime.

Nigel Magistrate Dennis Morton postponed the case to December 5 for further investigation.

Residents of Duduza chanted victory songs outside the court after the magistrate gave her ruling.

Speaker of provincial legislature, Ntombi Mekgwe, says they are happy the court denied the suspects bail.

“They are a danger to the community and should not live near us until they are formally rehabilitated.

“We are now awaiting the outcome of further investigations into the case and for their sentencing,” she says.

Mekgwe says Mswazi was a good man who dedicated his life to the community.

“He was a father figure to the learners and a mentor to some of his colleagues. He was harmless to the point that he wouldn’t kill a fly.

“The suspects have stolen a leader from us and for that we are pleading with the court to afford him and his family justice,” she says.

Sadtu’s secretary in Duduza, Pakiso Thai says they are happy the court respected the views of the community by denying them bail.

“Our faith lies in the court to ensure the suspects pay for what they did,” he says.
