‘We want to understand what employers want’

Youth and private businesses to approach companies about what their criteria for hiring is.

KwaThema – Youth organisations are bringing private businesses and the youth to the table for a dialogue on hiring practices.

Millicent Mazibuko, founder of Our Future, says they saw a need to engage companies about the criteria they use when hiring job seekers.

“Many people are not getting jobs, even though they seem to qualify for them.

“The aim is to give companies the opportunity to tell us what they are looking for.”

Sonto Ndlangamandla, who sits on the youth desk of Ward 78, says the aim is to create a friendly environment between the community and companies.

“We want to bring people who are not easily accessible to people on a daily basis.

Unemployment keeps going higher and this could be one of the solutions to eradicate it.”

Feminine Forum, Triple S Consultancy and Thabang Xaba Foundation are also part of the collaboration.

The event will take place on October 26, at KwaThema Hall, at 9am.

The youth is invited to prepare questions for the representatives of the companies invited.

Simangele Zwane says 10 companies have already confirmed their attendance.

“We are expecting more stakeholders to participate, even government enterprises.”
