Guards attacked while on duty

“That is when the police started searching the premises and a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects”.

KwaThema – Two security guards were attacked while on duty at a business site in Extension Three along Kgaswane Street on Saturday evening.

It is alleged when one of the guards was conducting his regular inspections on the premises he was grabbed from behind by two suspects.

KwaThema police spokesperson, Capt Thabo Sibuyi, says it is alleged the two men were armed with firearms and forced one security guard into the bathroom where he was tied-up.

“They searched him and took his cellphone and told him that they wanted the generators and cables.

“They then went outside and allegedly started shooting, however, the complainant could not see what was happening since he was lying on the ground facing down.”

After a while, the men seemingly left and the guard’s co-worker came to help him.

The two security guards proceeded to the KwaThema SAPS to get help from them.

“As they returned back to the site, they noticed that the suspects had also come back and were still inside the yard.

“That is when the police started searching the premises and a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects,” he says.

Sibuyi says no one was injured and the suspects managed to flee on foot and no arrests have been made.

“Police were, however, able to seize two hacksaws and discovered some empty cartridges at the scene.”

Law enforcement officers are asking for anyone in the community who can assist them with information to contact KwaThema SAPS on 011 812 4600.
