Community support ensures local beauty clinches the crown

Nomps promised to come home with the crown, and she did just that.

KwaThema – In July, Nompucuko Mangcaka asked the community to help her qualify for the final event of Miss Jozi, and she has won the crown.

The 24-year-old beauty says she could not be happier with the result.

“I worked hard to prepare for it, but hearing your name being called for the ultimate prize is always a pleasant surprise.

And I had some stiff competition from these girls.”

The event took place on Saturday at the Braamfontein Recreation Centre in Johannesburg.

Nomps asked the community to vote for her in the intermediate stages of the competition, and she made it through comfortably.

“I was so overwhelmed by the support I received from everyone.

I am eternally grateful,” she says.

The former Miss Tsakane Mall promised to give something back to the community.

“My duties include a lot of charity, and I will not leave my ‘hood’ out.”

Nomps remains an advocate for health and fitness.

“I started pageantry because people always told me that I have a great body.

My body is a great asset, so I take good care of it.”

She says that all you need is 30 minutes a day for a good workout.

“And once you start, the benefits will keep you coming back for more.”

The pageant queen now has her sights set on Miss South Africa 2018.
